This is my first pair from the maker, and not disappointed at all!! Order to delivery process was smooth and efficient - and per promised timelines, which is impressive - considering the shoes are made to order.
I have always gravitated towards the olive shade, and the personality of the Rudolph X sealed it for me. And thankfully, the shoe meets/exceeds expectations - save for a few minor niggles. Let’s break it down:
1. Materials: leather feels substantial, nice grain. The sole is a blend of rubber, leather, and a small irregular shaped brass plate at the front tip of the sole. The rubber provides good grip, but the brass tip might need some getting used to - particularly on hard surfaces.
2. Build quality: impressive welt design and execution. This is my first serious pair of shoes from an Indian maker of this grade - and having owned and used several pairs from English shoemakers - I’m truly proud of Blkbrd’s Indian pedigree. Stitching is clean and not overwhelming.
3. Fit and sizing: true to size mostly, suggest to go half a size up - if you prefer a more relaxed fit. The wide welt does not translate into a wide fit inside the shoe. Please be aware that there is a bit of compression on the top part of the shoe - it might ease out eventually, but it’s certainly evident out of the box.
4. Presentation: Comes in a lovely black box, a small shoe horn, and with individual shoe bags - truly welcome!!
Will update this review (if the website allows) - once I’ve broken in the shoes, and have had a bit more long term experience. Upfront recommendation: if you are on the fence, go right ahead!!
